The Yankee Doodle in New Haven has closed its doors, reportedly over a dispute with the landlord (which is not Yale, for a change). See www.newhavenindependent.org.
Bummer! I loved the Doodle for its old-fashioned ways: thin burgers, fried on a griddle, on buttered rolls with a little paper cup of ketchup on the side. You'd eat it at a real lunch counter with strangers at your elbow. A friend used to gorge there on hot dogs wrapped in bacon.
Let's hope the dispute is resolved!
