We had an out-of-town guest this weekend who wanted to go back to a couple of the places she would eat with her family when she lived here, and hit a neighborhood favorite.

At R&G, we started with the Salt and Pepper Crab. Everyone very much enjoyed this fresh crab with its light seasoning . I wished it could have been a little spicier. I loved the Walnut Prawns with their slight crispiness and mayonaise-like sauce. Others found the sauce to be a bit too much. Fried tofu with shrimp gravy had a wonderful creamy texture. Greens that were ordered were deliciously crunchy, but unidentifiable to me.

The better dim sum at Yank Sing included chicken with mushroom dumplings, the Peking duck, pork fried with taro, and an excellent shrimp with scallion dumpling. The lettuce cups with ground chicken were overpowered by brown rice.

Luella seems to have really hit its stride. New items on the menu included a special grilled duck with a madera sauce and a scallop and black truffle ravioli. Both were great, the ravioli was superb, filled with chunks of scallop and appropriately redolent with truffle. Flat bread pizza starter was very good. Winner desserts included the ricotta fritters and panna cotta. There's also a banana creme pie if your feeling decadent.
