It has always been my impression that in this country we eat only sweet potatoes, and that when something is labeled "Yam" it is incorrect, and that yams are generally in Latin America. When looking at the product with a purple label - - canned yams - - when you look at its ingredients, it lists Sweet potatoes, not yams.
Yet this past week I got in to something of an argument with a future family member when I tried to enlighten him..."We call them yams, we make yams, my wife calls them yams, so we are eating yams." I was very frustrated and let it drop. I sat at the table thinking, "hounds, come to my rescue!"
I know there is a difference, and it isn't just semantics...some one please help! Thanks.
