Yakitoriya on Sawtelle

Jeff Falls | Jun 4, 2002 02:22 PM

My wife and I ate at Yakitori-ya for the third time last night and it was excellent as it has been each time.

Yakitoriya
11501 Olympic Blvd. #101
LA CA 90064
(310) 479-5400

(Although the address is on Olympic, it's actually on the Sawtelle side of the Olympic Collection.)

This is a very traditional yakitori joint, like any place that you might wander into in Tokyo. The clientele is 90% Japanese and it fills up quickly after work, so you need to book. (We've been turned away before when they're full.)

They have yakitori set menus (10 pieces for $22 for example) and also ala carte. They must have gotten a duck shipment in this week because they had about six duck specials. We tried the duck stick and the premature egg (really unborn duck egg) in addition to our set menus. Everything was great.

Courses are brought out slowly and individually, so you should allow at least 90 minutes for dinner.

The price for dinner with a large Kirin was $56.00.
