There was a thread here recently about how great Yai Thai in E Hollywood is. Someone mentioned that Yai has a new outlet on H'wood at Serrano, about a block east of Western. He said he preferred some of the dishes at the new place better than the old (near the 101). I was at Hollywood and Western yesterday, ready to do my weekly Thai food-to-go run, so I thought I'd check it out. Walked east to Serrano; no Yai. There is, however, a new small "noodle house" called Ord Noodle that seems to be more pho than Thai, on that corner. Continued east, and noticed that the long-time place Hi Thai at Harvard is now closed and emptied out. Unless thay moved, I guess they couldn't handle the intense competition in that area. It probly had no parking, a major prob there. (According to J Gold's review below, it was apparently run by L.A's most famous Thai tattoo artist.) Continued East, and saw that there's a new Thai place called K T Restaurant, next to Jumbo's Clown Room. Gave up on the Yai and went to dependable Samanamalung (whatever) across the street. Yet I seem to recall once seeing a branch of Yai somewhere east of the main 101 location. Is that gone now, or what?
