I went to Chiado for my anniversary (Oro was closed, was originally going to go there). I don't need to go into details as they are clear on this page, but I will say that the grilled squid was the best I have ever had. The service was great as was the food - me: sardines, duck confit, yellowtail. My date: Grilled squid, lobster bisque, tiger shrimp. Washed it down with Portuguese red. A terrific meal, nice people, a wonderful date.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned CAFE POLONEZ on Roncesvalles. If you are Chowhound you shouldn't miss this and if you are POLISH (as my hub and I are) you'd better not!

For less than $6 Canadian a plate we had Placki (4 potato pancakes Polish style...i.e. not shredded but finely grated & fried; served with a small side of onions and bacon, and the inevitable sour cream), Kielbasa with...stop my heart: sliced tomatoes that actually tasted like tomatoes! And pierogi, about 12 of 'em...we asked our waitress to mix it up however they wanted and got black (Polish dried and re-hydrated) mushroom with sauerkraut, potato and onion, and ground chicken. You can get them filled with fruit if you wish. Finally, wash it down with a couple of Polish beers and you're outta there for C$30 for 2. The bread on the side's ok too. For the real deal we give it two thumbs up. (Not to mention the price).

We also hit Bright Pearl for dim sum. No offense to all, but our Chinese bartender at the Hilton told us to go there. We had a VERY light lunch - I was FINALLY able to try CONGEE which I have been looking for for a long time, so it was well worth it. By the way, there's a big sign inside that says that they will be featured on EMERIL. I thought that was interesting. Chinatown (main drag on Spadina) was a gas (!) listening to all the people bargaining and YELLING!

Lunch in Greek town (nothing illuminating) and the trip was over. Cheers to T.O. Sorry you didn’t get the Olympics, you deserved it!!!

One more thing for anyone who wants to listen. I'm from Grand Island, NY USA, so I spent time in NY too. If you want chicken wings and can't get to the original ACHOR BAR in downtown Buff, try Duff's on Millersport in Amherst. About $20 (total w/tip) bux for a small pitcher (beer) 20 wings and fries. And nothing's that good in Niagara Falls, USA so don't even bother.
