As a "member of the tribe" living in Manhattan for the past 5 years, I have enjoyed some solid Chinese meals on Xmas day. In fact, last year at Chin Chin on 49th / 3rd was one of the best our group has had yet.
This year, we were thinking about trying something a bit different. Basically, picking 3 (maybe 4) restaurants in Chinatown (they could use the support ...) and ordering a course or two from each.
We are definetly starting with the "soup dumplings" at Joe's Shanghai. However, I was wondering if some of the Chowhound Chinatown regulars could recommend some other *must have* appetizers / entrees at other locations ...
I've heard great things about the Egg Foo Young @ Wo Hop (haven't been there yet), and I'm a fan of the bbq baby pig & the sea bass w/ scallion flowers @ NY Noodle Town. I've also had a few seafood dishes at Oriental Garden (mostly excellent) and Dim Sum at Mandarin Court. But, that's all of my Chinatown knowledge in a nutshell.
Basically ... I'm looking for some Chowhound favorites to put together an itinerary that will keep us busy for an afternoon.
Thanks for your help ... take care, happy holidays!
