Xiomara Ardolina is one of the most distinctive figures in the L.A. dining scene and I was reminded of her attention to detail and style during lunch at her new restaurant on Melrose. Beautifully appointed with a stunning grand bar centerpiece this restaurant deserves to be busy. I hope she makes it here. Frankly, of the few who attempt this style of Cuban and Carribean, I know of no one who comes close. Certainly not Asia de Cuba. Only Patria in NYC comes close but I think her flavors are more interesting. Great Black Bean Soup, fabulous toasted breads, the best Mojitos (although 8.50 for a virgin is steep), great Shrimp Tamale, and the best Latin desserts (which in itself is a miracle). I believe before Susan and Mary Sue, Xiomara was carving her way. Lunch for three was $70 before tip. Well done.
