The first time I tried this place, maybe two years ago, I went for the cubano. That time, I wasn't impressed and ranked it below even the squealing pig's version (which is about on par with that of the Montrose Spa's version, I think - it gets confusing). Stopped by yesterday to give them another shot and was just rewarded. Cheese was melted perfectly and the roast pork was excellent. The ham was ham. I only wish they had added the pickles to the sandwich before it was pressed, rather than after.
The Jamaican beef patty was unremarkable. The rice pudding was very sweet and delicious. Add in a can of Pepsi and the total was only $8.
So now I'd say this one is about on par with the version at JP's Miami Restaurant. It's back on my list.
The Miami Cafe Restaurant is at 68 Aguadilla St. in the South End.
