I confess: I know little about Indian food. When I came to New York five and a half year ago (from Central Europe) I was introduced to it via 6th Street. By now I know that 6th Street is considered to be "bad" by most people from the region, the food there is supposed to be "americanized", etc. I would love for someone in the know to explain to me exactly what this means. How is the food different from an "authentic" place? I am fond of Gandhi at 6th, for example, and on a recent trip to Jackson Heights I ate at Delhi Palace and din't find the food to be all that different, just a tad (really: a teeny bit) spicier.
