Worldwide Diner revisits Portland

Worldwide Diner | Oct 19, 201506:41 AM     3

Almost 3 years after my first visit, I went back to Portland, to check out some of my favorite restaurants and try some new (to me) restaurants.

I stayed at an AirBnB because hotels are still charging their high season prices. Since I was staying in the West End, and my flight was delayed, I ended up having lunch at Bonobo's.

Bonobo's cooks their pizzas in a wood fired oven, but they're not Neopolitan pizzas. They cook it longer, presumably at a much lower temperature, which results in a slightly crispy bottom crust. I ordered a clam pizza. My personal preference would have been clams in their shells but Bonobo's uses chopped clams. It was a decent pizza.

After lunch, I went to Gorham bike to rent a hybrid for $35/day. Luckily I brought gloves, because it got very chilly/windy in Portland, especially on a bike.

For dinner, I revisited Street & Co. The place was packed. I started with 4 "Tastes": (1) halibut stuffed piqillo pepper with aioli - it tasted like an extravagant tuna salad! (2) spicy swordfish dolma - this beats the traditional dolma that I've had (3) char pate - less exciting tuna salad, and (4) spanish tortilla - I only had one bite, it was kind of bland. I would definitely recommend people try the first two.

I had an arugula salad between the tastes and my entree.

I thought about ordering the lobster w/ linguine again but I remembered it was kind of messy to eat. So I went with linguine with white clam sauce. I thought the pasta was pretty good, with strong hints of garlic and lots of chopped basil.
