As the higher-end/ more formal French/continental restaurants close one by one every few months, L'Espinasse, La Cote Basque, La Grenouille, (keep hearing Le Cirque is closing soon), wondering what the consensus is on the best of the still-existing higher-end restaurants that have a certain ambiance to them on a grander scale, and are also well-known worldwide?
Not looking for the tiny box-like Tocqueville/ Chanterelle type (and was far from blown away by either!!), but rather something more impressive with a grand, elegant ambiance..... Need to entertain some European clients, and want an impressive place with both food and decor, as they see NYC as the capital of dining (and I have yet to find reason to agree to that)!! Quite jaded/ need some help to be resuscitated and find some elegance and excellence in NYC.
