Woody Guthrie festival

I'm posting this on the Texas board because the vast majority of out-of-state plates I saw today were TX.

If you're headed to the last two days of the Woody Guthrie Festival in Okemah, OK, try to find the very very small Okemah Dairy Dog. After he noticed an overflowing parking lot around noon as we came into town, my companion soon developed a hankering for a burger and between performers we went back. I'm not sure there is even a sign - it is a little white Dairy-Dog looking building. There are about nine stools at the counter, no tables. Also at the counter was a couple from our town, about an hour away - they had been in Houston on business and always try to stop there on their way home - so this was another good sign.

I had the hamburger steak burger with grilled onions and cheese. ($3.09. let the NY board be jealous) The chopped grilled onions were between two slices of melting cheese. Great-tasting meat on an ancient grill. Truly the best burger I have had in years. My friend got an open face hamburger with gravy. Home grown tomatoes on the side (and on my burger). HE was very very happy.

My crinkle fries were nice and crisp and non-greasy, but his onion rings were truly superb. We saw them come out of the home-fridge, on a cafeteria tray waiting in a mountain of cornmeal to be scooped into the frier. They weren't greasy, just rigid and crunchy with well cooked soft sweet onions.

A very happy find. URL for the festival itself below
