Wood Fired Pizza Tampa

I took a group of four to Wood Fired Pizza (corner of Bearss and BB Downs) last night. Like many of you, my expectations are pretty high. Two salads, 4 different pizzas, and two cannoli's later, I will tell you that I thought it was splendid. Crust was great and the ingredients were first rate. I remember reading here that WFP was expensive. That was not my perspective. I think excellence in food of any kind is not cheap and I thought it was a good value for the quality presented. Other stuff: The oven itself, does not have a lot of capacity, so patience is required. We really did not know the drill, but in the future we will call a head to "reserve our dough ball". We also thought the discussion with the owner/ baker was insightful on his approach and philosphy. The owner has very high expectations and actually re-made one of our pizzas (before it got to the table) as it did not meet his standards. One small critcism was the lack of focus by our server who seemed distracted, got a couple of things wrong, and never asked if we wanted more to drink or cleared plates unless we asked. Could have just been an off night for her or she was abnormally busy. She appeared to be the only server.
