Just Wonton -- Still there, still tummy pleasing

Xiao Yang | Apr 4, 2008 09:28 PM

I was nosing around the Inner Sunset, where some friends had just bought a house, and decided to sashay out to 24th & Vicente to check out Just Wonton, of which nice things had been said on CH in the past. There were two other tables occupied in this minute hole-in-the-wall at 2:00 PM. I ordered a char siu wonton (no noodles, as is my preference). There were 10 wontons, a generous pile of char siu, and four stalks of bok choy in a subtle, star-anise infused broth. Each wonton held a whole fresh-tasting shrimp and some ground pork and other savory matter, and the char siu was lean (perhaps even too lean for my tastes). If I were to guess, I'd guess there was no MSG in the broth, but as this is not and issue with me I didn't ask. The bok choy was fresh. All in all a satisfying mid-afternoon light meal. Just Wonton actually should be called Not Just Wonton, as they have chow mein, chow fun, shui jiao in soup, potstickers and a few rice dishes. I want to say I'll be back to try more things, but it's not the greatest location for the transit-dependent like me.
