Wonderful Wondee Siam

Iron Frank | Apr 25, 2003 01:31 AM

I had a great meal at Wondee Siam on 9th Ave. between 52/53rd st. tonight. I've got a friend who's interning in the kitchen that ensured the food would be made "Thai Spicy" and she helped us pick a couple of entrees that the kitchen did well. We ordered a green curry, and a dish which name reminded me of "Ka-Pow" as did the flavor. A very good and well spiced rendition of beef salad and some small round fish cakes served with a peanut dipping sauce were both winners as well.

Everything was assertively spiced and had me sweating joyfully. Unfortunately a dish of Pad Thai ordered later by a friend without any knowledge from the kitchen of who we were seemed neatly done but not as flavorful or spicy. I guess you can approach Sripraphai level of Thai cooking in Manhattan as long as the right person is in the kitchen and they have faith in your tolerance for heat.
