Since so many people have been asking about Thor, especially with the new NYT review I thought I would share my experience with all of you chowhounders.
First off, I highly recommend it. I found both the food and the service to be superb. My Father is in the industry and can be extremely difficult to please but the waitstaff handled him well. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and professional and didn't make any blunders like the NYT's writer mentioned. He was able to answer every question we had and seemed knowledgeable about the menu from first hand experience. If we needed anything and the waiter was not around (which rarely happened) there was always another server who was willing to help out. On to the food.. I started with the oysters with tuna tartare and caviar. I found them to be a bit meager with only 3 small oysters but with the large portion of caviar on each I can understand why. Simply delightful. Next, had the pasta with squid ink. It came with large pieces of squid and was incredibly flavorful. My father had the same and my mother had the salmon lasagna which was delicious as well. For mains I had the lobster with fava beans and bernaise sauce, dad had the monkfish and mom had the venison. We all loved ours so much we could barely share! It was easily the best lobster dish I have ever had. We also shared the fig and fennel side dish which was a bit bland but not particularly important in light of our other distractions. An added bonus was Willam Defoe at the table next to us. All in all, a wonderful birthday for my Mom and a delicious meal!
