Wonderful new Italian in W. Village - Marco report

We live on the next block and have been waiting for the opening of Marco, which is where Merge and before that Indigo had been (between Greenwich Avenue & 7th Ave.). Well, it was worth waiting for!

We started with a delicious Caesar salad, enough for two, during which time we had Proseco and picked at the bread, a great country bread and a foccacio. I had one of the best main courses ever - zuppa de pesce, a robust tomato broth with surprising mounds of yummy seafood in it and included a toasted garlic bread that was impossible to ignore. It was reasonably priced, maybe around $21. My husband had the veal chop, deliciously seasoned and enormous, surrounded by roasted potatoes.

The total for one appetizer, two entrees and four drinks came to the low 70's plus tip. Service was friendly and accommodating. The place was filled though it opened only about a week ago. Yet we could talk and hear.

Menu had an amazing number of choices that sound wonderful, including frito misto, roasted asparagus with melted cheese, beans, tempting pastas even for those trying to eat low-carb, a Tuscan steak served over arugala that beckons to me.

We had no room for dessert but will go back asap. This is perhaps the best restaurant in our neighborhood, off to an auspicious start.
