Wonderful home-made Yunnan meals [Berkeley/Oakland] | Aug 2, 2015 05:08 PM

A meal pick-up service, Josephine, started in the Berkeley/Oakland area a while ago with the idea that a home chef makes a meal, and you can sign up to pick up and take home portions of that meal.
Recently I've gotten two spectacular meals from cook Li Rao who is making meals she has enjoyed growing up in the Yunnan province. I really enjoyed her bang bang chicken, served with delicious and healthy sides of fava beans with ham and sauteed wild mushrooms. This past week the flank steak with herbs was great, but the real winner was the 老奶洋芋, the Grandma's potatoes that were a very pleasing mash, with some small pieces of potato left with a pleasing bite, flavored with roasted chilies and Sichuan peppercorn. The sauteed Napa with a bit of dry chili and black vinegar were also excellently done.
There are some upcoming meals, usually on Thursday, and occasionally on Monday (including tomorrow).
