I had a wonderful meal at Hostaria Nerone. The next day I was near Circus Maximus when I was robbed.
I later wrote this letter to the son-in-law of the then owner of the Hostaria Nerone:
"I am sorry but I do not know your proper name. You reached out to help me during one of my darkest moments.
I was all alone, I did not know anyone in Rome, and I had just been robbed of my favorite camera that meant a lot to me. The slimy bandits also took the film of some of the best pictures I have made in Italy. No one would help me and you came out of nowhere. You stopped to help. Without hesitation you offered your service and your courage to give pursuit to the bandits that robbed me.
I am so very grateful that there are still heroes like you in the world. True warriors like you are few and far between. If I ever return to Rome it will be because of you and honest generous heroes like you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You gave life back to me just when I needed it most."
I am a professional photographer and have been back to Hostaria Nerone several times since that time in 2002. I am greeted warmly and served an excellent off the menu meal every time I am blessed to eat at Hostaria Nerone when I am in Rome.
