On Saturday night my husband and I went to Aquitaine to celebrate my 30th birthday... what a wonderful night!!! We had a 6:30pm reservation and due to some T delays were about 20 minutes late. We called on our way and the hostess was very accommodating and said "We'll see you when you get here." Very professional, given it was a full night! When we got there we waited about 5 minutes for a table, as we were waiting another couple came in without a reservation and the hostess called various restaurants in the area and found them a seat at a bar near by. I have never seen a hostess be so helpful and was impressed by this extra effort.
Now the meal… it was amazing!! The waiter was helpful when we were trying to select a wine and we settled on a 2000 Bordeaux which was a lovely, complex, medium bodied wine. For an appetizer we shared the mussels which were just amazing! The sauce was to die for and we sopped up the remainder with our bread. For my entrée I had the special scallops that were served on mashed potatoes with a buerre-blanc lobster sauce. The scallops were perfectly cooked with a nice sear and the sauce was rich and a perfect accompaniment. My husband had the steak au poivre which was served on scalloped potatoes. He seemed to thoroughly enjoy it! Finally, for desert we shared the warm chocolate pudding. It was rich and intense!! A wonderful ending to a wonderful meal! All in all, a great place to celebrate a special occasion!!
