I made a rare (I live nr Kensington) weekday visit to Baltimore & was VERY disappointed to find WIE on Charles St. closed for renovation.
I grabbed a quick lunch at Thai-rish in Mt Vernon instead. Small place, mostly carry-out, but bargain prices. I had a tasty, mild shrimp curry, coconut thom kai soup & iced Thai coffee for under $10. It's pretty much a one-man show by the Thai chef/owner with a shock of white hair.
BTW, Walters & BMA are both free the 1st Thursday of the month - that's why I was up there. Walters has a museum cafe I didn't get to visit b/c it was a bit convuluted to get there (access was a bit limited). But BMA only has a fancy, sit-down restaurant (Gertrude's). Absolutely no place to grab a coffee & a casual snack...
I plan to go back to Baltimore on a weekday, before my maternity leave ends in January - so many interesting museums to visit like the Amer. Dime Museum, the Amer. Visionary Art Museum, Great Blacks in Wax, Nat'l Museum of Dentistry. Hopefully the WIE tea room will re-open before then?
