I hadn't been to Wolfie's for a while and honestly, the last couple of times I tried to go there, the access and parking was such a hassle, that I went elsewhere. Recently, as I was passing, I slowed down to see what the lot was like abd as there was parking available, I stopped to grab a couple of sandwiches.
I didn't see David, but another couple seemed to be running things. One sandwich was made, but when he went to make the second sandwich, he took two small pieces of brisket and put them sideways on the slicer so that instead of long strips cut across the grain, the meat would be sliced (1) along the grain and (2) in slices about 3 cm long. When I pointed out that I wanted the meat cut across the grain, he responded, "I've been cutting meat for 25 years. You want to tell me how to do my job?" (Heck I've been eating deli for nearly twice as long as he's been slicing, but what do I know?) I reiterated that I wanted it cut acrss the grain, and he agreed to but the entire time grumbling about the customer always being right, but in a very sarcastic tone. I don't need to be treated like dirt, so I just told the lady to cancel the second sandwich and paid for the first one that was already made.
The guy that I have been used to dealing with for the few years (David? - Wolfie's son-in-law, I think) could be abrasive on a good day, but this guy took that abrasiveness to a new level. It's too bad. Wolfie always seemed to be a such a nice guy, and I've always enjoyed their sandwiches. My last Wolfie's sandwich ever - the one that was sliced properly - was quite good.
