I call it a minor review, as I'm not in Cabrales league for sophisticated reviews.
After some discussions about Wolfgang's on this board, and as I only live three blocks away, I decided to go on Friday night to try it out. I called to ask if I needed a reservation to eat at the bar, and they said no, so I went there at 7:30PM. The bar and restaurant was packed, but most people at the bar were drinking. Wolfgang himself asked a regular if he would give up his seat for me, which he did. From then on it was all uphill. Service was super friendly and excellent. Most food likewise. The only thing I did not like was the bacon. I ordered two strips, well done, but they were very fatty. Would not order them again. The filet mignon was excellent, cooked exactly to my specifications. (black and blue) Had steamed asparagus with it. Then the sundae for dessert. Beck's dark beer and a glass of Penfold's Australian Shiraz to drink. Met Wolfgang and his son. Both splendid fellows. Most of the customers seemed to be his former customers from Peter Luger's. I must say, reading threads about this restaurant, and knowing its location to be a "death location" for restaurants, I had my doubts. No more. I'll definately be back. Not being a Peter Luger regular meant nothing. The treatment and friendliness of the people at Wolfgang's was superb.
