Just had one of the best burgers I've ever had today for lunch at Wolfgang's on 33rd/Park. It's only available take out or at the bar. I had it at the bar (about $16). Perfect medium rare with melted cheese, perfect bun, thick red slice of tomato, thick onion slice, several round pickle slivers (jarred), iceberg lettuce and a perfect small portion of thick fries (gave up on Atkins for this lunch, couldn't resist). Also ordered a side of slab bacon, about 1/4 inch thick and 9 inches long. This was my first time getting bacon like this and I actually prefer the standard thin and crispy to put on a burger, but on a plate, thick is better. Nice char for both the bacon and burger. A must visit for the egullet burger club. Only complaint-the Wolfgangs steak sauce is way too sweet (a bad take on the PL sauce), so I went with standard Heinz ketchup. My problem now is I am way too full to work the rest of the day. A great gastronomic experience, even though I doubt the staff knew where the pototoes were grown, how the cheese was made, what type of vinegar was used in the sauce...(wink, wink). After my arteries thin out, I'll definitely be back for a porterhouse.
