Once again, outstanding service! We both had the champagne risotto, the braised beef and the tiramisu. The meal itself was just ok I dont usually salt my food, but it was necessary to salt the beef & accompanying items- just a matter of taste Im sure. The dessert was amazing generally I dont like tiramisu its usually bland and over hyped. At Centro I wished for a larger portion because it was so good
Level of service was very good. Ive been to Canoe before, so had an expectation in terms of portion size and service. I had the salmon, the chicken and the chocolate cake. Between the four of us, I think we tried everything on the menu. Loved the salmon - very flavourful. The chicken was a little on the salty side, and maybe slightly overcooked. The chocolate cake was ok. Im very fussy about chocolate, and only ordered it because rice pudding is in my opinion un-natural! Having said that, those at the table who ordered the rice pudding, said it was excellent. No comments on the soup, but my fellow diners had thumbs up for both the scallops (very small portion though) and the Ravioli.
All in all, I think that those restaurants that catered down to the Winterlicious crowd, did themselves a disservice. Id already been to Canoe, Biffs, Auberge and Agora at various times in the past, and will likely go back (well, maybe not Agora). Id never been to Avalon or Centro - and now cant wait to try the regular menu at Avalon, and would be willing to give Centro another go because the service was great, and the Tiramusu was good enough to go back for ! I was going to try Truffles as well, but heard such bad things about their treatment of guests during Summerlicious, that I didnt bother...
