I thought last year's winter farmers market in Tilton NH was nice but I went to the opening weekend yesterday mainly to meet up with a friend I haven't seen in awhile. It's being held in the same place, the former Agway building near Kohl's but I think there are lots of new vendors and they are open from 10-2 BOTH Sat and Sunday. My friend stocked up on pigs ears for her dogs. We both bought Delicata squash although it must be getting near the end of the season for this small variety. My friend bought a bag of fresh salad greens. The selection of fresh greens was excellent. One vendor said, yes, they have high tunnels. If you're not familiar with gardening, these affordable structures are becoming very popular for growing winter hardy vegetables year round without supplemental heat. There was one vendor, however, with fresh tomatoes. Good variety of local raised meat, condiments, even flour and dried beans although you can also buy prepared baked beans, soups, baked goods, candy, etc. In addition to my planned purchases, I came home with two varieties of gourmet ravioli. It's terrific that those of us living in Northern New England have so many local products. I also like the Tilton location because the building is so roomy. There is plenty of room for shoppers and time to stop to talk with vendors. I can only see this market getting more popular as news spreads. Great list of vendors and foods like garlic scape pesto you can't buy at the grocery store.
