This place caught my eye because the youtiao in the window looked like the version we get in Shanghai, smaller and darker than the ones we usually get here at Hing Lung. So I wandered in and got a couple of youtiao, plus some appetizing looking taro cakes, turnip cakes, and pork & vegetable steamed buns.
The awning of the shop promised "dongbei small eats" and there were a number of dim sum items (particularly steamed) that I'm not familiar with. There's also a few tables in the place (it's mostly takeout) and some hot dishes on a steam table.
I'm wondering if any of you who know northern Chinese small eats are familiar with it, and have any recommendations.
(The youtiao, BTW turned out to have a slightly sweet, almost doughnut-y taste, not what we were looking for.)
It's at 1125 Stockton St. (SF) between Jackson and Pacific (same block as Cheung Hing).
