Winebar suggestions?

CaptCrunch | Feb 18, 201803:04 PM

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I will be in New-York this week and I was wondering if you had suggestions as far as winebars go.

I already have one in sight (Terroir in Tribeca, trying to reserve as we speak) but having a plan B doesn't hurt and I don't know the scene in Manhattan.

My preferences would be the following:

*I would like it to have a good selection by the glass
*I would like to be sitting at a bar
*Tasting flights a big bonus
*Wines with a story a bonus
*Weird wines from countries not fashionable a bonus (big bonus if there is a wine by the glass from Georgia)
*Open to biodynamic and natural but not necessary
*I'd like it to be a minimal amount of people in suits and golf attire talking about the time they drank that cheval blanc or their fascinating wine tour down the mosel
*I don't care about proper, I don't care about decorum, I care about passionate people being passionate about wine and having an opinion (even though our opinions might differ)
*Smiling people who are having fun, low sense of decorum is greatly enjoyed
*Somewhere where the barman could go *let me make you try something special* and reaching out below the bar would be above the call of duty (last time it happened I discovered Ratafia!)

If you know the Montreal wine bars, I enjoy:

*Loic
*Vin papillon
*Magdalena
*Larry's
*Rouge gorge
*Pullman

(yeah, a lot of them are natural bars but rouge gorge and pullman isn't)

These days I tend to enjoy:

*Riesling in all its forms
*I'm a botrytis maniac
*Chardo (all of them, the playing field is way bigger than one might think)
*Gruner veltliner
*Vinho verde
*Bourgogne aligoté
*Orange wine (all of them)
*Gewurtz
*Chenin blanc is 50/50
*I like pinot noir
*Saint-Laurent
*Tempranillo (especially Toro wines)
*Côte du Rhone
*Nebiollo
*Sangiovese

My current obsessions:

*Arianna Occhipinti
*Stefano Belloti
*All things botrytis
*Georgian and Slovenian wines
*Auslese and spatlese wines
*Orange wines
*Dessert wines

Do you have an opinion? Let me know!
