Hello all -- I'm in a bit of a quandary regarding wine choices for a dinner party and am appealing to the collective wisdom of the Chow board.
The main dish will be a shrimp and canellini dish with zucchini, adapted from an Italian recipe, for which I have a really good chianti on hand (have served this combination before with success). Our appetizer will be a sort of Italian guacamole -- avocados, basil, garlic, lemon, a dish that I have also served successfully before. However, I'm at a loss as to what wine to pair it with -- something lighter than the chianti (and not fruity enough to interfere with it when it appears) and that will get along well with the guacamole ingredients (e.g.: won't accentuate the acidity of the lemon). It would be nice if the wine helped "lead in" to the main course and also worked well for drinking a bit before the appetizer (i.e.: without food).
Any suggestions, reds or whites, would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
