I'm in the preliminary stages of planning a party for about ~20 people. I have several bottles of wine (no duplicates) that are pretty much at the 'drink now" stage (all reds). they're all over the board varietals (Cabs, Bordeaux, blends, Zins, cotes du rhone, etc.). I want to try them all and this is a good way to go about it. :)
I was thinking about making an elk/venison/beef stew and maybe a chicken chowder/stew of sorts ~ something people can just serve themselves at will, something that is not over powering to the wines and something I can make ahead and not have to be putzing in the kitchen. On the other hand, I could throw the whole meal idea out the window and go for a number of hearty apps., but again, they'd have to be things that 'go with" the heavier, complex reds. I want enough protein based foods to avoid getting too sloshed. I must avoid all shellfish, as one guest is deathly allergic.
What sounds more fun?
