Wine at Enoteca Maria, Staten Isl.

I like wine a lot, and just wanted to pass along my pleasant experience at Enoteca Maria the other day. I guess it's not a wine bar per se, but they have what seems to me an exotic selection of Italian wines from small producers. I've not been to many wine bars, so maybe this is standard, but I was offered little tastes of two wines I was considering, in order to make a decision. Then I had a glass of the one I preferred. The reds on the first page were, I think, $10 to $12 a glass, and they went up from there...but I certainly did fine with my $11 wine. Rich and complex, but I can't remember the name. You could certainly be served lesser wine for the same price at other places. I had a nice green salad with mozzarella, and they brought complementary bread.

I should probably add that I was there in the late afternoon on a Friday, and was only one of two people there. It filled up with diners later, so I don't know if you could just order wine when they're busy.

I'll definitely do this again.
