I found a great wine bar on Wythe and North 7th called D.O.C that has been open for about a month or so. It's run by a guy from Sardinia and his wife. Apparently (I may not have the details exactly right here) D.O.C stands for whatever stamp of approval the Italian government puts on products that are really from Italy. All the wines, meats and cheeses are supposedly from Italy. The atmosphere is lovely--very rustic, Italian farmhouse. Wines by the glass come in two sizes and the menu is salads, sandwiches and plates of meats and cheeses. I think they also have desserts. It was really nice and the owner was very friendly. We had a plate of meats (prosciutto, breseola, mortadella) and cheeses (mixture of soft and hard, sheeps and cows milk) that were about $9 each. They came with this great Sardinian flat bread that is very thin and crispy and scented with rosemary and olive oil. Salds and sandwiches others were having looked great. Go before the hipsters take it over.
