I did a Greek dinner last year. For the wine, I bought a dusty bottle of Retsina at an Italian deli, because when I was growing up, retsina was served at many family Greek dinners and weddings. Memory can be deceptive, though, as I found out. Retsina is actually horrible stuff--it tastes like pine-sol and did not compliment the food at all.
So, can anybody recommend both red and white wines to go with the typical fare served at Greek dinners (e.g., roasted leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic, moussaka, spanakopeta, avgolemono soup...you get the picture). I'm on a quest to improve my knowledge of wine-and-food-pairings, so please give me your best suggestions.
