Windmill Market's Date Shake | Desert Hot Springs

Melanie Wong | Apr 8, 201711:23 AM     10

After years of reading "glbtrtr" recommend the date shakes at Windmill Market in Desert Hot Springs, last week it was finally my turn to try one on the way back from Joshua Tree.

This also happened to be in the middle of a sand storm with wind speeds of up to 40 mph. I had to use both arms to pull the door open, then once the wind caught it, the door flew out of my hands. Fortunately, the market folks are experienced in this and had a sandbag doorstop that prevented the door from smashing into the wall. Needless to say, I did not checkout the outdoor patio.

The date shake really is all that. Made with pieces of date, vanilla ice cream and milk, then blended to order. Not soft-serv, not date-flavored powder. Real ingredients. The modest staff explained that's how everyone used to make them in the area years ago but they're the last old school date shake. So, Windmill holds the crown for the best date shake in the desert.
