Last month I visited some friends in south Monterey County. As it got dark and we started to get hungry, we wound up at Wild Horse Cafe as one of the few non-Mexican options open on a Monday night for dinner. This was my first time there though my friends are semi-regulars for breakfast. I asked our waitress if the breakfast menu was available all day. Turns out that breakfast, lunch or dinner can be ordered at any time.
The menu is enormous encompassing diner-type fare, plus Mexican. One twist is the burgers are made with local Hearst Ranch beef.
I ordered the Chicken fried steak in the breakfast presentation (it's also served for dinner with different sides). Very good hash browns and my eggs were over easy as ordered. The CFS is prepped in house and pan-fried with a nice breading and just enough tenderizing. Biscuit was stale, but the sausage cream gravy was good.
All my dish needed was hot sauce. Here's what our waitress brought me when I asked for some.
My ice tea was unsweetened, brewed in house.
Wild Horse is south of King City proper, just off Hwy 101 at the gas station. Besides the restaurant, this truck stop also has a convenience store for one-stop shopping.
