First ... question about the Earthgrains Outlet on Folsom & 16th in SF ... anything worthwhile there?
I passed that place weekly for over a decade on my drive from my condo to visit my mom at Laguna Honda. Never stopped.
However, I would hear reports from relatives at the nursing facility that some amazing bargains could be had here. The one that sticks in my mind was a dozen and a half of cinnamon buns for 79 cents. It seems they have some bargain groceries too.
Is this place worth a stop?
Outlets are not my thing ... however, after getting clued into the wine at Grocery Outlet (dang you, MW), I was on my way to check out what was available at the San Pablo branch this week.
For over two years, I've passed by the nearby Wonder Hostess Thrift Bakery on 1946 23rd St, San Pablo. I thought I'd stop.
If anyone is interested, they had boxes of whoppie pies. There seem to be other outlets in the Bay Area.
Other than the pies, this really is a sucky store.
They carry a few other groceries in addition to bread, but the prices are not really a bargain ... and everything looks stale and dusty. Packages of Twinkies are 69 cents each ... I pay less than that for fresh (if there is such a thing) Twinkies at Raley's.
They have this sign on the window that Wonder Bread is 69 cents, but you have to buy three sorta stale loaves to get the reduced price. Otherwise the loaf is about the same price as a fresh (so to speak) loaf of Wonder Bread at Raley's.
In the future, as far as this place, I'll just continue to drive by. It is places like this that give outlet stores a bad reputation.
