In an earlier discussion about Whole Foods Market, I imposed my opinion about how the only thing I dislike about WFM is that they carry farm-raised salmon in their prepared foods section.
Someone responded by saying in his or her WFM in Sherman Oaks, their deli carries WILD as opposed to farm-raised salmon. This is not true.
I called every single WFM in Southern California (including both Sherman Oaks locations), and asked the prepared foods supervisor of each which kind of salmon they carried -- wild or farm raised. The response from every single location in Southern California is "farm raised".
I personally don't like the taste of farm-raised salmon, and knowing WFM adds color to the fish to make it look like salmon leaves a bad taste in my mouth-- literally. I mean, I can barely chew this stuff before spitting it out. And, at $16.99, I wonder who buys this stuff.
What people don't know about salmon farms is that salmon escape from the farms, and breed with wild salmon, creating a whole new mutant style salmon, with a greyish color and a weak immune system.
Not everyone feels the same way, I realize. And, for those of you who enjoy salmon whatever way, that is awesome.
But, for me, I love my WFM in Santa Monica. Just, not their farm raised salmon.
