Enjoyed several bottles of Westport Rivers Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 this past NY eve at a friend's house. He discovered it while visiting their tasting room just before Christmas. According to my friend, the grapes were grown on the North Fork of Long Island and purchased by Westport.
My first taste was a light strawberry nose, a clear red color, pronounced "legs", a mild strawberry taste with a hint of chocolate and really no finish After about 30 minutes, the second glass was much more enjoyable: more of a red raspberry flavor with stronger chocolate and a smooth lasting finish.
Second bottle showed that this Cab would benefit from aeration about a half hour before drinking. My friend liked it so much, he purchased a 12 bottle case at the winery. I may do the same. A very nice Massachusetts/new York produced wine.
