West Side Lounge is one of our favorite neigborhood restaurants, and we eat dinner there once every few weeks. It was great to find out via their email list that they were starting to serve Saturday lunch. My wife and I went yesterday and had a very good experiece.
Started with a Mojito and a Dogfish Head Brewery Pumpkin Ale. The mojito was great as usual, and the Pumpkin Ale was good as well -- similar to many of the winter brews that many microbrewers do, but with just a hint of Pumpkin Pie spices.
Shared a decent Caesar salad. Nice fresh lettuce, homemade croutons, and standout shaved cheese on top. The wife had their baked mac and cheese -- elbow macaroni in a very light cheddar sauce with crispy bits of prosciutto and a really crisp topping. It was served in a little oblong baking dish and came out to the table sizzling hot. I had a really good French Dip -- very generous amounts of rare roast beef, carmelized onions on a really tasty francese roll. I would have preferred if the beef was hot, but it was an very generous portion, coming with the beef jus and a heaping pile of their hand cut fries.
The place was mostly empty -- just two other tables filled. The single waitress and bartender were both very friendly and attentive. Prices are very reasonable. Hopefully the will continue serving lunch.
