West Philly Pho!

Deb A. | Sep 21, 2003 12:22 AM

The new Vietnamese place on the SE corner of Spruce and 43rd is now open! I happened to walk by Friday on my way home from an errand around lunchtime; it was their first day open for business so I ducked in for a spontaneous bowl of pho. The menu is classic Vietnamese lunch place/cafe, in no way watered down -- like a little outpost from Washington Ave or the edges of Chinatown. The menu features pho (beef rice noodle soup), vermicelli, rice flake, and broken rice platters, plus a few appetizers. Main dishes cost about 5 dollars. A wide range of fresh fruit shakes, with or without tapioca bubbles, and the usual iced coffee, rainbow ice, etc. I thought the pho was excellent. I'm bowled over to find a decent, cheap, Vietnamese joint in my neighborhood and I hope everyone else who loves this sort of food flocks to the place and keeps it in business. And posts reports on the rest of the menu! Hours are 10 am to 8:30, closed Mondays.
