West meets East - Please share your thoughts

My college roommate and her fiance will be in town from San Francisco this weekend, and I'm organizing a small group (7 or so) dinner. I'm trying to figure out what is delicious and yummy that excels here but not so much so in S.F. I'm used to thinking of the problem in the other direction - to missing the quesadilla suiza with carne asada that is made so perfectly just 2 blocks from my ex-roomie's house in the Mission, to craving S.F.-style dim sum, to remembering the rare treat of South Indian snacks served in the back of a grocery store in Berkeley - but I haven't given much thought to what (other than bagels) just doesn't get done that well out West.

The added wrinkle is that it needs to be fairly inexpensive yet be a good place for old college friends to catch up, chat, linger etc. I know they don't have DiFara's in S.F., but sadly it's not the best place to relive your bright college years over a drink or several.
