west coast chowhound needs your help: planning private party downtown

wow i'm a dog | May 2, 2005 12:01 PM

my family and i will be coming into town from los angeles this june for a wedding and would like to plan a surprise birthday lunch or dinner party for my dad. i've only been to your fine city once, so your help is much appreciated. it will be a special occasion indeed as he was involved in a catastrophic accident last summer and this is the first time most of the family will see him after his (continuing) long road to recovery.

i'm looking for a non-chain italian restaurant that may have a private space where we can catch up and visit. the private space isn't mandatory, but i want to ensure that the restaurant isn't too crowded or loud. we'll definitely want to chat. there will be older folks that might have trouble hearing. plus, because of his brain injury, loud places can be too uncomfortable for him. nothing too fancy or pricey, but elegant. i'm anticipating about 20 people. a friend suggested rosebud on rush. any thoughts on that?

i hope this gives you enough info. thank you in advance for your help!
