I just got the Williams Sonoma Ice Cream book in hopes of having a basic ice cream-making tome. Seeing the green tea ice cream recipe in the table of contents was a plus, too. So I get the book home and go through it page by page, and, whoah, weird green tea ice cream recipe! Now, all green tea ice creams I have had are made from matcha, the powdered green tea used in Japanese tea ceremonies. The recipe in the book uses green tea tea bags or loose leaf green tea. Hello? That kind of green tea tastes nothing like powdered green tea.
Does anyone else think this is weird? More importantly, do you think I can follow the same recipe and just substitute powdered green tea? I love green tea ice cream and would love a killer recipe, but the W-S doesn't seem very promising.
