Weezie's - meh

sam_1 | Dec 22, 2009 06:56 AM

Finally got to Weezie's last week after long wanting to go there (per the great reviews on this board). I have to say I wasn't blown away, by either the service or the food. To start I had an arugula salad with garlic oil and radishes. This was fine in terms of taste, but WAY overdressed. - completely wilted and soggy. For a main I had the steak frites - a bit boring, but I figured a decent steak frites is a benchmark for a restaurant. The frites were amazing - salty and well-done, perfect. Great aioli along with them as well. The steak, not so much. It seemed like a fairly cheap cut, and was cooked really unevenly. I asked for medium rare, and it was well done basically 1/3 of the way in from each end and pink in the middle. Don't know how they managed that...

My companions had the following dishes: chicken pate, boudin noir, and scallops (can't remember what they were served with). The chicken pate order was huge, but strangely came with ony a few toasts. The other mains seemed to be enjoyed.

Skipped dessert, but had coffee. Service could have been more attentive, it was more indifferent than anything. Nothing really bad about it per se, but not really friendly.

Still, I will likely give it another try...might have been an off night?
