last week's review

i came back from Montreal on Monday. here is what i
checked out.

Marche Movenpick underground at the Place Ville Marie
loved it. it was my favorite spot so far. you have to see it to appreciate it. very expensive but well
worth it. all kinds of freshly cooked foods in a unique atmosphere. great crepes.

Beautys Mount Royal finally tried it. good diner but
it's only a diner

Premire Moisson Mont Royal Ave chain bakeries stupendously delicious pastries i gorged on. they have incredible looking creations and deli items i have never seen before. an instant favorite

Java U Coffee shop in Old Montreal the coolest of all
the coffee houses i have seen. cool techno music and
modernistic furniture (Italian?) really worked together
yet it was still relaxed and friendly with desserts and good in-house made subs. this is also a small chain

Reubens 1100 block St Catherine West bummer! the old Reubens is gone and a tourist trap has replaced it like
the Invasion of the Body Snatchers: same name different
place entirely. ill never go back. they deep fried all the breakfast meats like amateurs. terrible.

The Main St Laurent across from Schwartz's
i had poutine with smoked meat on top, a heart attack on a plate if ever saw one. the smoked meat was good
but somewhat stringy like the old canned beef the U.S. government used to give out in the 60's. i also wont
go back here at night because the waitress was pushy and there is no atmosphere here at all. she even tried to grad a dollar tip at the cash register in a quick tourist flogging that i nixed. she didnt even deserve the tip i left on the table. at Schwartz's you feel like you are at a family reunion, at The Main you feel like you are at a morgue...

smoked meat: i had Nickels and The Denos diner's and i liked them both even if they are not the house made
type. they are thin sliced and "visible" fat free. i
can say that i actually prfer this type of smoked meat.
it is just a different product than the the Main's or Schwartz's. i hate seeing fat that i have to trim off
myself. i can't eat grisle like that. yechh.

looked good: Pagnelli's chain deli's/pastry shops
they are a run for the money against Premiere Moisson
but i didnt get a chance to try them. next time.

Sweet India somewhere up north on the island. exotic Indian sweets and other meals. it's a greasy spoon but the desserts were delicious and unusual.

La Paryse Ontario East very good cozy place had a great turkey club made with real turkey as opposed to the rubber turkey seen everywhere these days.
