Well, it has been two weeks here and I miss my coffee,pastries and chinatown back in philly.Here is my experience so far:
Their dolmeh was good,their kashk O' bademjan was pretty good and their crispy rice was good with the ghymeh topping. the ghormeh sabzi was too oily and the fesenjan too sweet. The koobideh kabob was pretty good,the barg was over cooked and the chicken was OK.
We just tried their rolet(good) and their zolbiah and bamyeh(not so good).
The steak appetizer was the best part of the meal. I had the boring seafood salad(Steam shrimp and scallop) and my husband had the more interesting tuna nicoise salad.
We had our best cappucino and latte so far here. We also had a double chocolate snack that was too good.
IRVINE FARMER'S MARKET
I had high hops for this place,but it didn't live up to my expectations. It looked like most of the stands offer the same peachs and plums amd some veggies. I spent $6 on some strawberries that ended up in trash, because when we got home we noticed they were old and moldy underneat. We also purchased a greek bread that was suppose to have feta,olives and oregano and all it had was a little olive and no sign of anything else. We bought some basil and grapes that made the cut.
After farmer's market we went to this place that is located in the market place. Their cornish chicken kabob was good,their filet kabob was over cooked and their looleh kabob looked pretty bad. Their rice was under cooked also. I don't know why persian restaurants always over cook the fillet. I guess, next time i should ask them to cook it med.
We had our worst vietnamese vemicelli bun experience in this place. The nouc cham was boring and the quality of meat was very poor. Hardly any flavor and we have had our share of buns before. One of the best one's we had was in denver,co. The vietnamese coffee and the egg roll was bad also.
PACIFIC WHEY CAFE
We just purchased their coffee(strong) and almond denish(too dense and sweet) and something else that was too sweet. We also tried their cherry, toffee cookie(OK).
What saved us from all the bad and OK experiences was taco rosa's. We went for the big rosa(rib eye,chix,shrimp) and every thing was delicious. The shrimp was juicy, the chix tasty and the beef very flavorful. I can't wait to eat the left overs.
Please! If you ever had real gelato you know this is a poor sugary copy of that!
Well, thanks chowhounds and I can't wait to explore more and find great chows. We tried to go to the Zov's,but they told us they stop serving at 2 on sun(their website says 3) and the dessert case looked good.
