Restaurants & Bars 2

Two weeks in hong kong

Me and my Girlfriend are staying in hong kong for about 2 weeks in july. I haven't been there before, my girlfriend is chinese malaysian and we are also going with two other malaysian, both have been there before. I have been to malaysia chow-hounding last year, and we ate in ipoh, penang, kl, and then off to singapore and jakarta.

to give a background of the way we eat when we travel i will say a few things. We like places that a not expensive. We like to only eat where locals eat, so no big tourist spots. I like hole in the wall treasures. most of the places we ate that had the best food in malaysia had stray cats and dogs at our feet as we ate. i am not concerned with cleanliness and i will eat anything as long as its good.

Two questions i have for the board:
1) Either areas or specific restaurants that are local and serve the local working people
2) Non touristy neighborhoods for getting the maximum exposure to the culture and its people.

again, dirty, unfriendly, cheap. i like all these things

posh upscale, touristy, aimed towards americans or westerners. i dont like these things

We would def eat somwhere that is maybe more expensive if someone thinks its really worth it.

Thanks everybody for you help! I cant wait to go!

BTW, thinking about visiting some of the outer lying cities like shenzen so if anybody has rec for those areas please let me know!
