Weekend trip

First things first: After some excellent clams on-the-half-shell washed down by a pint of PBR at Fish, we went for pizza at Joe's and then John's close-by on Bleecker St in the Village. Joe's wins by a mile. John's has sadly gone down, down the hill, as reported by others. But hope springs eternal, so we tried it. Neither pie comes close to Joe and Pat's on Staten Island, my personal gold standard.
Dinner the next night at Apizz. Wow. Just great. And I wasn't prepared for what a beautiful, comfortable room they have. Ethereal gnocchi, lasagna with wild boar sauce, roasted sea bass, all wonderful. Service was excellent. Good wine list, reasonably priced.
The following night, dinner at Cafe Boulud. Overpriced and overrated. Nondescript dining room with tables literally shoehorned together. The food was good, but no better than I've had at a dozen other places for considerably less money. We had a better dinner and more fun at Apizz for literally half the price, to pick the most recent example.
