My family and I spent this past weekend in Seattle, specifically to attend the Seahawks-Jaguars game at Qwest Field. Seahawks won 41-0 and dominated all phases of the game, offense, defense and special teams and Hasselbeck showed real leadership and grit playing injured. The weather was wonderful, clear and cool all weekend. Thanks to all you Seattle hounds with your comments and suggestions.
We arrived into the city from SeaTac around 10:00 pm Friday and checked into our hotel. On the plane ride over we read a review of Serious Pie by Andrew Zimmern and as luck would have it, it is 2 blocks from our hotel, were still open and seating customers. We shared a nice green salad, the clam, pancetta and lemon thyme pie, buffalo mozerella tomato pie and a chocolate budino with figs. Everything was delicious and fresh tasting. The standout was the buffalo mozerella and san marzano tomato pie, absolutely perfect!
Saturday found us at Dick's Drive In for cheeseburgers and fries. I had wanted to go the Red Mill Burgers, but my family nixed the taxi ride and as we were at the Seattle Center, we walked over for lunch. Not bad and cheap, but I prefer Burgermaster over Dick's anytime. Will have to save Red Mill until my next visit.
Dinner that evening was at Shiro's Sushi. We all shared the unajyu (bbq eel over rice), black cod and sushi tei shoku meals. The unagi was crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside with a nice sauce over the rice. The black cod featured 2 nice pieces of delicious fish and the sushi toppings were very good. Well prepared Japanese food, fresh and tasty, although we thought it was a bit overpriced for what we had. Still I would rather pay a bit more for something good than a lesser amount for mediocre Japanese food.
Breakfast before the game was at Lowell's. I had the bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast, my wife had the sausage, eggs and blueberry pancakes and my son the corned beef hash and eggs. Everything was hot and delicious, love their hashbrowns, plus we scored window seats on the ground floor. With hot coffee it was a terrific start of our day.
Our final meal was at Elliott's Oyster House. We started with the deep fried calamari and blue cheese baked oysters. Both were very well done, great calamari and my son surprised us by eating 3 of the baked oysters pronouncing them awesome. For dinner we shared the fish and chips, pesto clam linguini and seafood salad. Everything was tasty and we all agreed the clam linguini was the best of the 3 dishes with lots of fresh clams with a delicious sauce perfect for dunking bread.
Hope to make it back next year for another Seahawks game and sample more of your great cities food offerings. Thanks again.
